It is a true crossroads community located where Route 301 and Florida State Road 20 intersect. Everyone seems to know everyone, encouraging a true sense of community. Hawthorne has a rural lifestyle, with many people commuting into Gainesville for work. Schools in the area include Shell Elementary School and Hawthorne Middle & High School.

Things To Do

Hawthorne Recreation Park is a beautiful park with sporting fields and walking trails. Many community events are held here each year. Little Orange Creek Nature Park contains 65 acres of unpaved trails, perfect for hiking, biking or horseback riding. Just north of the park, you will find The Little Orange Creek Nature Preserve which contains approximately 3,000 acres of undeveloped lands. There are nature trails and educational programs for children.

There are some great restaurants in the area including Dianne’s Old Time Barbecue, Judy’s Pizza, and P J’s Cafe & Catering.
