The area was once popular with tourism through the 1880s, but great freezes in the area and the implementation of the automobile ended the steamship runs that once carried tourists to the area.
Today Earleton is a quiet and peaceful community of close-knit neighbors. Local children in the area attend both Melrose Elementary School and Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High School.
