Newnans Lake is located on the eastern part of the city, with a number of parks surrounding it. Palm Point Park, Gum Root Park, and Earl P. Powers Park are all in the immediate vicinity. There are all kinds of parks and green spaces located throughout Gainesville. Devils Millhoper State Park, Sweetwater Preserve, Loblolly Woods Nature Park, Clear Lake Nature Park, and Terwilliger Pond Conservation Area area all beautiful places to get outside.

It is about an hour and a half from both Jacksonville and Orlando. Tampa is about 2 hours away, and the Atlantic Ocean is only about an hour and a half to the east coast. Atlanta is approximately five hours to the north and Miami is about five hours to the south. Just to the south of Gainesville, you will find Lochloosa Lake, Orange Lake, and the wide open spaces of the Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park.
